Expected Conduct and Etiquette for Parents
Positive and frequent communication is encouraged! However, please do not use team communications as a parenting portal. Team communication channels are meant for communicating messages to the entire team, not your individual child. Also, as a general rule of thumb, our team follows the praise publicly, correct privately mentality.
- Encourage, but do not help your player during game play. Cheating and other forms of unethical behavior from students or parents will not be tolerated. Violations of the school's code of conduct may result in a permanent ban from all chess-club related activities.
- Encourage regular practice routines at home. Just like with any other competitive activity, hard work and practice always pays off. Check in with your player regularly to make sure they're practicing and completing their weekly goals.
- Please help your player perform their best by reducing pressure and stress immediately prior to or during game play. Chess is a competitive game that requires high levels of focus and concentration for sustained periods. See below for useful tips to keep your player's mind sharp during matches and tournaments.
